The Guardians of the Galaxy are a band of former intergalactic outlaws who have teamed together to protect the Galaxy from planetary threats. An undetermined time after, they defeated the Abilisk, attracted the unwelcome attentions of Ayesha and her Sovereign race, and defeated the Celestial Ego. A sentient, tree-like accomplice of Rocket Raccoon, Groot sacrificed himself to save his new friends. As he propagated from a cutting rescued by Rocket, Groot rejoins the other Guardians of the Galaxy as an infant, slowly relearning the heroism that previously defined him.
