The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were created when four baby turtles were exposed to radioactive ooze, transforming them into humanoids. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo all learned to fight, each specialising in different varieties of ninja weapons. Living in the sewers of New York City, they were raised by Splinter, a mutant rat who teaches them ninjitsu. Along with their human friend April O'Neil, they fight to vanquish the city's evil forces lead by the Turtle's nemesis, Shredder. They can usually be found spouting their signature catchphrases "Cowabunga dude!" and "Totally tubular!" while enjoying pizza.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first hit the scene in a 1984 comic book series, conceived as a parody of popular superhero comics. It was so successful three years later the first action figures were released, alongside the first TMNT animated series. There have since been multiple live-action films, numerous video games, several more animated series and countless action figures and collectibles. The Turtles have never been so popular!
